Kitchener-Waterloo, ON (October 16, 2020)––Kitchener-Waterloo Association of REALTORS® (KWAR) hosted their very first REALTOR® Run in support of Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region. The anytime, anywhere walk or run took place the week of September 28th to October 4th. With the support of KWAR members and the community, the REALTOR® Run raised $16,700 in donations. KWAR has donated an additional $10,000 bringing the total amount to $25,702.94 for Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region.
“We had 63 individuals journey 5 km in the region covering over 315 kilometres,” said Colleen Koehler, President of KWAR. “Next year we look forward to exploring even more of this beautiful community we are fortunate to call home.”
A safe place to call home is very important and as REALTORS® it is only fitting to support such a cause that helps to make housing more accessible in our community. KWAR hosts an annual charity golf tournament for Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region and this year they took the precaution to cancel the event given the current COVID pandemic. Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region has provided homes for over 143 families since it first started in 1988. It takes $220,000 to build a home along with close to 5,000 of hard work from volunteers.
KWAR’s goal was to introduce a COVID-proof way to not only give back to the community but to also feature the best of the Waterloo Region. Participants were asked to take photos during their run or walk and upload their to social media using #KWRealtorRun. This campaign aims to create a library of images showcasing the many trails, neighbourhoods, and sites in the region all while promoting the cause.
