Shirley Lohmer named honorary member
KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON (January 26, 2011) At its Annual Dinner Dance, held January 21st, 2011, REALTORS® of the Kitchener-Waterloo Real Estate Board (KWREB) were pleased to acknowledge Shirley Lohmer as their 15th Honorary Member in the association’s almost 75 year history. This distinguished honour is given to a member who in the opinion of the Directors has rendered outstanding service to the real estate industry or to the association.
Shirley received her real estate license and joined the KWREB in 1974, opened her own business under Lohmer Real Estate & Appraisals Ltd. in 1982, and in 1984 became the association’s third woman to serve as president. Since becoming a REALTOR®, Shirley has sat on and chaired countless committees and task forces of the KWREB, as well as the local chapters of the Real Estate Institute and the Appraisal Institute of Canada.
In 1984 Shirley was named Business Woman of the Year by the local Chamber of Commerce for her efforts in the development of professionalism and raising educational standards in the real estate industry and her work promoting Private Property Week and urging federal election candidates to enshrine property rights in the Constitution.
For her volunteerism and service to the community, both within and outside the real estate industry, Shirley was the first recipient of the Claude E. Dubrick REALTOR® Merit Award in 1997.
