KWAR REALTORS® Care: 2016 Donations

Recently the Kitchener-Waterloo Association of REALTORS (KWAR) presented donations totaling $18,000 to two deserving local charities.

“YWCA Kitchener-Waterloo and Child Witness Centre are two amazing local charities that I am pleased to announce were successful in their grant applications to the REALTORS Care Foundation (RCF),” said James Craig, President of the KWAR.

Child Witness Centre received a cheque for $8000. Speaking on their behalf Executive Director Laura Muirhead said, “Every day in our community a child or youth finds the courage to tell someone that they are being abused.  This gift to the Child Witness Centre will ensure that through the new Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC), working collaboratively with the Waterloo Regional Police and Family Children’s Services of Waterloo Region, these young victims have an Advocate to support them and their families through the investigative process and ensure that they get the help they need to begin to heal. It is an investment in creating hope – the children we help are significantly more likely to grow up and seize the opportunities ahead of them, building a stronger and safer community for everyone”

On behalf of the YWCA Kitchener-Waterloo, CEO Elizabeth Clark said, “The RCF’s gift of $10,000 will provide 167 days—nearly half a year—of emergency shelter, warm food, and crisis support for a woman experiencing homelessness.”

“The KWAR is proud to support the RCF through its Every REALTORS® Campaign which helps to ensure investments are made back into our community through local charities,” says Craig, adding “The RCF acts on behalf of Ontario REALTORS® in funding shelter-related charities across the province. Shelter is defined as a refuge, haven or protection that provides or improves quality of life from hunger, the elements, physical/psychological abuse, disabilities and illness”.
