REALTORS® raise $20,000 for ROOF at 17th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON (July 12, 2010) The REALTORS® of the Kitchener-Waterloo Real Estate Board (KWREB) are pleased to announce $20,000 has been raised for Reaching Our Outdoor Friends (ROOF) through the association’s 17th annual charity golf tournament held Tuesday June 22, 2010.

The tournament attracted127 golfers in a fun team-scramble format at Conestoga Country Club.

“Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and our REALTOR® community, we were able to exceed this year’s fundraising goal,” said Brian Spall, Chairman of the Golf Taskforce. “REALTORS® are committed to improving quality of life by supporting the important work that ROOF does for our youth, we are helping to build a better community.”

ROOF provides for the safety, support, and overall well-being of homeless youth and youth-at-risk, age 12-25, in the Waterloo Region.

With the support of Heffner Lexus/Heffner Toyota (Platinum Sponsors), RBC Royal Bank, Teranet, The Real Estate Book, Waterloo Region Record (Gold Sponsors), Bingemans, Canadian Home Inspection Services, Madorin Snyder, LLP, and Victor Hussein Law Office (Major Sponsors), and all the sponsors that supported the event, this year’s tournament exceeded last year’s fundraising effort by $6,500. “I think this speaks a little bit to the improvement we’ve seen in the overall economy,” says Ted Scharf, president of the KWREB. “Now that we’re out of the recession, local businesses and individuals alike are able to dig deeper than perhaps they were able to do last year.”

Since 1993 the KWREB has donated more than half a million dollars to support local charities.

REALTORS® believe that healthy communities depend on a strong economy, safe neighbourhoods, a clean environment, access to housing and the protection of rights of property owners. The KWREB recognizes the need to support and enhance the Quality of Life enjoyed by residents of Waterloo region.
