KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON (September 18, 2015) — REALTOR® volunteers took a break from their “Team Build Day” at the Kehl Street development site in Kitchener yesterday to take part in a cheque presentation of just over $20,500 to Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region.
The funds were raised through the KWAR’s 22nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament held at Rebel Creek on Tuesday, June 23, 2015.
Established in 1988, Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region (HFHWR) is a non-profit housing organization working to break the cycle of poverty by building simple, decent and affordable homes for hard-working, low-income families.
“For over 25 years HFHWR has helped more than 100 local families become homeowners,” said Mark Wolle, president of the KWAR. “REALTORS® see firsthand the importance of homeownership every day when we’re working on behalf of our clients. But for some in our community this dream is just a little further out of reach, and these are the homebuyers that Habitat for Humanity serves.”
The KWAR Board of Directors recently reaffirmed its commitment to improving Quality of Life and providing housing opportunities, by entering into a partnership with HFWHR to sponsor a home build. Proceeds from the KWAR’s Annual Charity Golf Tournament in 2016 will combine with this year’s funds towards the goal of a KWAR-sponsored Habitat for Humanity home.
During this build season the KWAR was proud to participate in three separate Team Build days. REALTORS® in Kitchener-Waterloo and area are helping to build a strong and vibrant community.
