KWAR Response to Racist Vandalism to a Realtor’s sign in Waterloo
The Kitchener Waterloo Association of REALTORS® (KWAR) is shocked and saddened by the recent vandalism in Waterloo over the Chinese characters of a REALTORS®’ sign. This deplorable action reinforces that racism and discrimination exist everywhere and that as a community, we can and must do better.
Our REALTORS® in Waterloo Region mirror the diversity of the region and this diversity builds stronger and better communities.
All REALTORS® must abide by a strict Code of Ethics that requires they not deny any professional services to or be a party to any plan to discriminate against any Person, and not complying can result in serious sanctions.
KWAR’s president Colleen Koehler has reached out to the Realtor® member of the Toronto Real Estate Board whose sign was defaced to express our regret, offer whatever support we can provide and reinforce this kind of behaviour is unacceptable.
Waterloo Region Police Services is actively investigating this incident and we encourage anyone with any information to please contact them at 519-570-9777.
